Debriefing for this week!

So this week went by super fast for me and now that i think of it it was kind of a blur. Halloween came and went way too fast! This week was full of good conversations about prejudice and Jane Elliot. I would like to think that the talk on Saturday changed more life or atleast the way I look at life. I am so glad we had to attend this talk for class because I honestly don't think I would have gone on my own and I would be missing out on a realy good 3 hrs. I also, really enjoyed watching October Sky. It's one of my favorite movies and I think it is so enspiring. I guess this week was full of inspiration for me. It was one of those weeks were I took a step back and evaluated myself. I thought about not only how I was doing here at school but also just how I was doing as a human being. I questioned myself whether this is who I wanted to be. I'm glad I was forced to think about things because of FS this week. Although this week wasn't always good (due to reasons I won't list) I enjoyed it because it made me think.

this weeks debriefing!

So the stress of college life sure is getting to me now but it's the little things in life that are making things bearable. For example it's 12:10 am right now and I'm in the library with a mountain of work in front of me but I just went to McKinley's and they actually weren't out of chocolate milk! I love chocolate milk and McKinley's always seems to run out of it. I guess I'm not the only one on campus that likes it. But anyways, the thing is, no matter how stressed I get little things in my day keep me going. I'm not going to lie I dread going to FS sometimes (no offense Professor Knupsky) but lately it seems like that class is helping me cope with the rest of life right now. I love being able to just voice my opinion about things and that there really is no right or wrong answer in that class. The commentary assignment basically made me sick to my stomach because of my anxiety about public speaking but getting to hear everyone's opinions and ideas about so many diverse topics was pretty amazing today and last thursday. It was a really thought provoking assignment and I wish I had assignments like that in all my classes. Well it's back to work for me ... gotta love Allegheny!

Musing for 11/13

I love Mo Rocca and I was really excited to see that he had this week’s commentary. I like how he named the most popular costumes which were mainly heroes (which took me way back to the Kit Carson and the Western Heroes readings we did and the discussions we had in class about what really makes a hero.) I think its funny how there are always a few trendy costumes that seem to repeat themselves as the trick-or-treaters come to the door. It really caught my attention when he referred to Saw IV has “pornographically violent” because we had just discussed the violence in movies like this in class and how it’s weirdly entertaining but that it might also be contributing to our nation’s rate of violence. I never really thought of saw as pornographical though. Also, I thought it was perplexing that everyone knows about Halloween but very few people pay attention to the following day, All Saints Day. I personally never knew there were so many patron saints for so many different things. I think All Saints Day should be celebrated a little more since it seems like a lot of the saints had pretty amazing lives and should be honored. All Saints Day seems like it should be a little more important than Halloween.

Debriefing for this week

I can't believe there are only 2 more days of classes before break! ... This week flew by. I remember sitting in my room on monday thinking "it's only monday" dreading the rest of the week to come. I'm a little sad that Sunday Morning is over for our FS. I was used to watching it and I loved being able to discuss all the storie in class. I think that show really brought our class together. It gave us so many topics to talk about and to debate on. Coming into this class I would never have thought a show could do that. I'm really going to miss watching Sunday Morning. It always opened my eyes to o many new things and to things I never even thought about. I hope that even with my busy college schedule I'll get up early on a sunday every now and then to watch it. I'm really glad Professor Knupsky introduced me to this show because before taking this FS I never even knew it existed.

Debriefing

I can't believe the semester is almost over! Doing this debriefing is really making me think about how fast this sememster has gone and how many of these I have done without even thinking that one day I won't have to blog for FS anymore. I really enjoyed the meditation exercises we did in class on Thursday. I think it was the perfect way to spend our last real class time together. It was really relaxing and I really needed that this week. I never knew how stressful the end of this semester would be. I'm looking forward to see everyone's episode's coming up in the next few classes. I think they will be a great way to wrap up the semester and will allow us one last time to shine in FS. I also am really excited to see who wins all of the blog awards. I'm really going to miss our FS and everyone in it. I"m glad we still have a few classes left. Good Luck with your episodes everyone!
