This Sunday Morning's episode was about the Maytag company, Frank Stella, the '08 presidental election, and genetic modification...
Apparently the Maytag company is going out of business. i saw a commercial about it on tv; a statire in which the wife of the Maytag man is yelling at him to go to work, but since the appliances 'never break,' he doesn't have a job. it reminded me of those Stride commercials, because both products last for a really long time, the business is actually hurting. it makes me wonder if companies intentionally make products that break down easily in order to get money for the repairs? or am i just paranoid?
Here's a link to a blog about the Maytag company:
Frank Stella is a weird artist, and is in the picture above. His work consists of sculptures that resemble smoke rings...
Rudy Giuliani is one of the Republican canadates. i think that if I had to vote Republican (I'm a democrat) i would vote for him. I like his liberal social views. the segment made him seem like Nathan Petrelli from 'Heroes' in that the Republicans may vote for him, despite his liberal social views, because of the work he did as mayor of New York around the time of 9/11....
My favorite segment feature genetic manipulation. The work scientists are doing is similar to the movie Gattaca, which is one of my favorites. There is a process called Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, which allows individuals to screen through their offspring's genetics in order to eliminate diseases. you can read all about it here:
