There's Something in My Attic by Mercer Mayer  
This books features a young girl who is determined to capture the monster living in her attic to prove to her parents the he exists. The girl lassos the monster who grabs her teady bear and refuses to give it back. By the time she reaches her parents room to show them what she has captured, the monster had escaped. In the end, the girl is pleasantly surprised to find the monster who fails to play the role of the stereotypical monster.

 

There's A Nightmare In My Closet by Mercer Mayer  
This book features a boy who is haunted by the idea of a nightmare living in his closet so he decides to get rid of it once and for all. The boy shoots the nightmare with his corked gun and the nightmare begins to cry uncontrollably. The boy worries that the loud blubbering nightmare will wake his parents so he tells him to stop crying and comforts him by tucking him into his bed. The book ends with both of them lying together in bed.
