Minutes

~Professor Knupsky is the new Phi Chi faculty advisor
~The meeting time worked for everyone, so we will continue having bi-weekly meetings
on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month. They will be in Carnegie 101 at 8:30pm
~Induction certificates were passed out. For those of you who missed the meeting, come
to the next one to get your certificate and pin!
~We need people to go to the psych department meetings. Please email me if you can
attend any of them. They are on the following Thursdays from 12:20-1:20 in
Carnegie 100:

~Soon Psi Chi will soon have a blog! The minutes will eventually be posted there along

~Events for the semester (email Julie if you are interested, have questions, or
have ideas!)
1.) The ARC
-Saturdays from 10am-1pm (we can carpool)
-working and making crafts with mentally disabled kids
-Upcoming trips to the ARC: Sept. 29, Nov. 3, Nov. 17, Dec. 8
2.) APO Dance-a-Thon
-Sat. November 17 from 2pm-2am
-We want to make a team with psych club and possibly sponsor an hour
- A member of APO will be at the next meeting with more information
3.) Make a Difference Day
-Sat. October 20
-hoping to make a team with psych club
4.) Career Series
-email me with ideas for speakers…anything would be great, the more unique
the better!
~We are going to work on the display case- “How to get involved in Psychology.” Be
thinking of ideas…old equipment, pictures of labs/students, list of professions,
theories, etc. This will be an event with Psych Club
~Psi Chi has money/funding that you can apply for. There aren’t many applicants and
the money you could receive could go toward your comp (i.e. paying participants,
buying equipment)

Minutes

**Next meeting will be Tuesday, October 23 at 7:30pm Carnegie 101. After our half hour meeting, we will be watching “Momento” with Psych Club!

- The “SHAKE it Up” Dance-a-thon is Saturday, November 17th from 2pm-2am. This event stands for Students Helping Autistic Kids Excel. Like Relay for Life, only one member from a team needs to be dancing…so, you can just come for a few hours. We are not sponsoring an hour so each member only has to pay $10 (includes a t-shirt). Email one of the officers if you want to sign up.

- Visit www.psichi.org to check out grants and awards available to us for our research!

- Make a Difference Day is Saturday, October 20th. We have a team…email one of the officers if you are interested.

- Spread the word about Psi Chi! The officers will be having information sessions during classes. Encourage your friends and classmates to join. Applications are going out after Fall Break.

- The next department meeting is October 11th from 12:20-1:20 in Carnegie 100. Julie and Rachel have signed up to go.

- The next youth program at the ARC is Saturday, November 3rd from 10-1.

- Ideas for speaker: Director of Counseling Services to talk about Mondays with Maggie and animal therapy.


Other News
- Professor Hancock is speaking on October 9th at 7:30 in Carnegie. The topic will be Landmine Hunting…come see how this relates to psychology.
- On November 11th, Tri-Beta and Neuro Club are hosting a speaker to talk about Plasticity at 4:30 in Quigley.
- November 30th is the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Dopamine! Celebrate 

Welcome Back!
- Welcome to the 19 new members!!!

Roll Call
-All members were present with the exception of Rob Abood, Rachel Atchley, Dawn
Beemer, Katie Cross, Brittany Czaplicki, Jennifer Estes, Dana Faux, Rachel Fodi, Allison
Fogg, Ric France, Sarah Goetz, Jochen Hutzenlaub, Josh Kendrick, Kennihan, Kristin
Khor, Olivia Lobaugh, Katie McCool, Christina McKinnis, Natalie Nagy, Lauren Paladino,
Emmalynn Sigrist, and Laura Tuller.

Requirements for Members (needs majority vote to pass)
- Attendance at 50% of meetings (equivalent of one meeting a month)
- If you cannot ever attend meetings, please send an email to Katie Cross at crossk@allegheny.edu with the reason why… the executive board will review them and come up with a compromise on how to still meet general membership requirements
-The vote passed with no opposition
- Attendance at 3 outside events each year (inductions twice a year, Psych picnics, speakers, movie nights all count!)
- 2 for this semester

Penalties for not completing requirements up for discussion

Psi Chi General Meeting Minutes- March 4, 2008

*Roll Call
All members were present with the exception of Rob Abood, Jessica Adamczak, Dawn Beemer, Christopher Brightbill, Brandi Carofino, Danelle Ciafre, Jeffrey Day, Jennifer Estes, Dana Faux, Ric France, Amy Gardener, Sarah Goetz, Christopher Hanson, Caitlin Hesch, Josh Kendrick, Maria Kennihan, Olivia Lobaugh, Katie McCool, Christina McKinnis, and Lauren Paladino.
Excused Absences: Rachel Atchley, Danielle Brigham, Lucas Glover, Kristin Khor, Laura Tuller, and Natalie Nagy.

*Dr. Conklin will be talking about her graduate school experience and research on Tuesday 11th at 7pm in Carnegie 101. This can count as an outside event! This is hosted by Psych club.

*April 1st is the tentative date for inductions. We will have inductions in place of a meeting. There will be cake and it also counts as an outside event (you are required to participate in 3 outside events).

*The display case will be updated soon. Ideas include: pictures from inductions/psych labs, a list of senior comp projects, list of professor’s specializations, contact info (blog)…If you have more suggestions, email Nicole (tindaln)

*Faculty meetings count as an outside event (part of your requirements). We need 2 representatives to attend the meetings. They are on certain Thursdays at 12:20-1:20 in Carnegie 100. Lucas Glover and Jeff Day signed up to attend Thursday, March 6.

*Ideas for events:
-psych picnic
-fellowship event (bowling/ice-skating)
-GRE subject test overview
-Service projects (ARC/Chaps)
-co-sponsor with neuroscience and psych club for an autism speaker during
autism awareness month
-co-sponsor with psych club for a movie night or Cranium night

Psi Chi General Meeting Minutes- March 25, 2008

*Roll Call
All members were present with the exception of Rob Abood, Jessica Adamczak, Dawn Beemer, Sharon Bellina, Brandi Carofino, Jennifer Estes, Dana Faux, Rachel Fodi, Allison Fogg, Ric France, Sarah Goetz, Christopher Hanson, Jochen Hutzenlaub, Josh Kendrick, Maria Kennihan, Kristen Khor, Olivia Lobaugh, Katie McCool, Christina McKinnis, Robert Schreiner, Emmalynn Sigrist, and Christopher Whiting.
Excused Absences: Rachel Atchley, Pember Edwards, Natalie Nagy, and Lauren Paladino.

* Induction certificates were handed out tonight. If you were not at the meeting, be sure to come to the next meeting or contact Nicole (tindaln) to get them.

*Faculty meetings count as an outside event (part of your requirements). We need 2 representatives to attend the meetings. They are on certain Thursdays at 12:20-1:20 in Carnegie 100. Nicole Tindall and Anna Creighton signed up to attend Thursday, March 27.

*This Saturday (29th) Psi Chi is co-hosting a late night event to kick off Autism Awareness month. It is in the campus center (room 206) from 10pm-midnight. There will be food, games (including Wii), and gift cards being raffled off. Come have fun (and add another outside event to your chart!). If you are interested in helping Nicole create flyers, meet her in the Carnegie computer lab on Wednesday 26 at 1pm.

*Inductions are scheduled for April 1st at 8:15pm in the Schultz East Alcove. This is in place of our meeting and counts as an outside event. There will be cake! We need someone to be creepy and take random pictures throughout the ceremony. There is a large group of inductees this time- 38 applied and 21 were accepted.

*The display case was updated! However, we need random pictures of students, faculty, labs, classes, etc. to put in it. All pictures can be emailed to Nicole (tindaln) or mailed to box #167.

*Nominations for the next exec board can be made through email (tindaln) until April 14th at 8pm. You can nominate yourself or someone else. Please include a few reasons why you would like the position or ideas you have for the position; whether you have a second choice position (or if there is a position you would not take). An email will be sent out the night of the 14th with all of the nominees and their platforms. You can read them so that you are prepared to vote at the following meeting (Tuesday, April 15th). Positions include:
-President (oversees everything, talks to other groups, works closely with Professor Knupsky, runs meetings),
-Vice President (coordinates service projects i.e. ARC),
-Secretary (keeps track of attendance, enters minutes into the blog),
-Treasurer (deals with checks/reimbursements, works closely with ASG and attends budget hearings). Officers will have plenty of info. to give to the next exec board to make an easy transition.

*There will be a Cognitive group panel on Wednesday, April 9th in Carnegie 212 from 12-1pm. The topic will be post-graduation experiences (applying to programs/being accepted). This counts as an outside event and is open to the campus…so bring a friend!

*We want to participate in Theta’s Jail n Bail on April 16th from 6-11pm in the campus center. Basically we pay $10 for someone to be “arrested” and raise $20 on their behalf to bail them out. Proceeds go to CASA. Please donate money (any amount)! You can send money to box #167 or bring it to inductions.

*A speaker from LECOM on Autism is coming April 17th. This outside event is being co-sponsored with psych club and neuro club. The topic will be neuro-anatomy and brain cell research on autism. The speaker is also interested in getting Allegheny students to intern with him over the summer! More info to come…

*We are going to try to plan a psych picnic at Dr. Cross’s farm later in the semester

*There are grants available for research through the National Psi Chi. Check out their website. Applications are due in October.

*Seniors who are interested in showing off their research…there is a psych conference in Erie on April 26th (Saturday). You must submit an abstract and register if you want to attend. Also, there will be a Psi Chi/Cognitive group Senior Comp Showcase in late April in Schultz. This is a good way to show your comp to the campus! More info to come...

*There is now a new position for the Exec Board (36- in favor, 0-opposed)
-the position of Vice President has been split into 2 VP positions
1) Activities VP: plan speakers, events, etc.
2) Service VP: plans volunteer opportunities and makes contacts with
local organizations
-this helps distribute the duties of the execs
