Allegheny College Panhellenic Council

Every sorority is different in this manner. There is a “mutual selection” process in which during Formal Recruitment, the girls going through recruitment chose which chapter they would like to return to and the chapters choose which girls they would like. These selections are then correlated together to determine where you will go the next night.

Your recruitment counselor is there for you to answer any questions you might have about recruitment. They are a guide so take advantage of them. If they are not doing their job, make sure Nicky Barcic or Ashley Steckel is informed.

Of course you want to dress to impress. It’s not necessary to wear an evening gown but just do not dress like a bum. Jeans are acceptable the first day or two with a cute top but the last night you probably would want to wear nice dress pants or a skirt/dress. Avoid wearing anything too revealing. Just be classy!

Frequently Asked Questions

A legacy is a woman whose grandmother, mother or sister is an alumna or active member of a sorority. Each woman is considered on an individual basis, and the sorority is not obligated to extend a bid to a legacy. By the same token, a rushee should choose the sorority with which she feels the most comfortable. Each sorority is different (some accept you as a legacy if your aunt was a sister, others do not) so make sure you check this ahead of time. You can be a legacy to more than sorority also.

How do the sororities “vote?”

During recruitment, just be yourself. You want to find the sorority that best fits you and your personality. This will help you be the happiest in the end. Talk about yourself, school, goals, and do not be afraid to ask questions. This makes a good impression. Avoid talking about boys, parties, and alcohol as the conversation could get awkward.
