Greetings Theta Chi Brothers & Friends,

I am pleased to inform you about a new scholarship program being introduced for undergraduate members of Allegheny's Beta Chi chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. More specifically, we are creating an endowed Chapter Specific Scholarship Fund (CSSF) through Theta Chi Fraternity's public foundation. Over time, when the fund reaches critical mass, earnings from the endowment will be available to extend a Helping Hand to needy brothers in the form of educational scholarships. Furthermore, we envision the scholarship program as another “feather in our cap” to help with the recruitment of new members. This also serves as a tangible demonstration of our motto— Alma Mater First, and Theta Chi for Alma Mater!

We are proud to inform you that Harry Bonner '56 is sponsoring a challenge campaign in an effort to jump-start the newly established scholarship fund. Brother Bonner has generously agreed to match donations on a dollar for dollar basis up to the first $5,000 of aggregate contributions. A few additional key details of the program are:

  • Endowed Scholarship — This is an endowed scholarship, meaning distributions of money are only made from investment income. This ensures the program will remain intact for future generations of Theta Chi’s at Allegheny.
  • Tax Deduction — Because the fund is established with the Foundation Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, Inc., a 501(c)3 foundation, any gifts made to our Beta Chi CSSF are tax deductible. Donors will be identified each year in the spring issue of the Fraternity’s magazine, The Rattle, which is published by the Foundation Chapter.
  • Status Updates — We will keep you abreast of the status of the fund, incoming donations, and scholarship recipients in The Banner, our chapter newsletter.
  • Make Your Donation Count — While contributions should be made out to “Foundation Chapter, Inc.”, it is imperative to note “Beta Chi Scholarship Fund” in the memo field of your check. Credit card donations may also be made over the phone or on the Foundation Chapter’s website, but please make sure to specify “Beta Chi Scholarship Fund” to ensure your donation is properly recorded and credited to our chapter’s scholarship account.

Finally, we would like to note that while the Beta Chi Building Association endorses the creation of the Beta Chi CSSF, they are completely separate entities. As such, we hope and trust that any financial support you provide the Beta Chi CSSF will not detract from your current contributions to the Building Association’s annual fund, which goes towards making improvements to the chapter house, publishing alumni communications like our newsletter, and ensuring the sustainability of the undergraduate chapter.

Thank you for your continued support!
Fraternally,

Chris Manuel ’95
