Pennsylvania has always been known for its beautiful lakes and streams, but few people realize the true potential for water-related activities that these bodies of water hold. Northwest Pennsylvania has an especially unique amount of water recreation because of the whitewater in Butler County and the shoreline of Erie County. In addition, area lakes and streams provide excellent resources for canoeing and boating, as well as fishing, water skiing and swimming.
With such a wealth of water resources, the residents and vacationers in northwest Pennsylvania have a responsibility to preserve these resources and keep them from being destroyed by pollution, litter, and overuse. One of the biggest challenges for the future is the continued use of these resources while improving their cleanliness and increasing public awareness of the benefits and opportunities they offer.
