Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos

Francis Xavier Seelos on January 11, 1819 in Füssen, Bavaria, Germany. Even as a child Seelos showed interest in entering the priesthood with a life devoted to God. After making the decision to become a minister for German Speaking immigrants to the United States, Seelos arrived in New York April 20, 1843. On December 22, 1844 Seelos was ordained as a priest in Baltimore Maryland. Seelos spent much of his life in working in many different parishes in the United States. He was known in the religious community as an expert confessor and for his spiritual guidance. Seelos also spent much of his life committed to the poor and abandoned. Francis Xavier Seelos died while caring for the sick in New Orleans on October 4, 1867 of yellow fever. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 9, 2000.
