Mary MacKilop

Good Day Ma--I Mean Saint! Mary MacKilop was born in 1842 to a family of poor Scottish emigrants. She founded Australia's first religious order in 1866 called Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart. This institution dedicated itself to educating poor children. She was excommunicated in 1871 when she refused to allow the bishop to assume control of her order. She was later re-accepted and later died in 1909. After praying to St. Mary in 1961, a woman sick with leukemia was cured. She is currently one step away from being cannonized as Australia's first saint.
