Cultural
Constructions of SexualityAssuming that culture is one of the lenses though which we view the world, this website provides a basic understanding of how sexuality, gender, and identity are constructed through various cultural discourses including scientific texts, political essays and activism, film, literature, television, and music. It is the mission of this site to investigate the ever-changing definitions and shapes of sexuality over time and processes whereby sexual desires and identities are defined, mass-produced, and distributed - with a special focus on our contemporary society. This site is a collective work that has its roots within Allegheny College's Interdisciplinary course, Cultural Constructions of Sexuality, taught by Professor Judith Rose during the Spring semester of 2005.
