Benefits and Responsibilities
Explained
Sign Your Work
Sign your name on all work you submit for credit. This certifies that you
upheld the responsibilities and spirit of the Honor Code in completing that
assignment.
Don't Cheat
Plain and
simple -- just don't do it! The Honor Code prohibits both the giving and
the receiving of unauthorized aid of any type.
Don't Plagiarize
Plagiarism is the use of another's thoughts OR ideas without
giving proper credit. For more information, please check out our Plagiarism Resources.
Report Violations you
Witness
The Honor Code is about
academic integrity and personal responsibility. It is everyone's
responsibility to promote the positive academic environment we should all strive
to achieve. For information on how to report a possible Honor Code
violation, please visit our Reporting Section.

Tests and Exams Need Not be
Proctored
Your Professor
might choose to leave the room during an exam to display his or her trust in the
students.
Students will have Freedom to Move About the Academic Building
during Exams
If you are
uncomfortable taking exams at your desk, you may get up and take your test
to a more comfortable location. However, there are some
exceptions!:
• You can not take test materials out of
the building
• You can not take test materials into the
bathroom
• You can not take test materials behind locked
doors
Also, it is your responsibility to
obtain any changes or corrections to the test should you leave the room.
Positive Academic
Environment
At Allegheny, there is
a unique environment of mutual trust between students and faculty. The
benefits of this are seen in numerous take-home assignments and the development
of close relationships between students and faculty members.
