The 2003 Habitat Semi-Formal

11/15/02 The 2002 Hut-A-Thon

About $3,000 was raised for the Habitat house over the Hut-A-Thon weekend in November. The Hut-A-Thon began with the Presidents' Challenge where the student government president John Hreha and Allegheny College president Richard Cook competed for an hour to see who could raise the most money. President Cook won by a long shot, and John got a pie in the face while President Cook ate his pie. Local pizzeria, "Pizza from Mars," donated pizza and Sodexho-Marriot donated hot chocolate to keep students going. A fire burned to keep the students warm. Several student organizations volunteered to man the hut during the 48 hour campaign. Passing pedestrians and cars were stopped for donations. Long-sleeve T-shirts were sold for $10 each (shirts are still available at a reduced rate of $5). Some folks were quite monetarily generous and others (poor college students) generous with their time, but everyone that participated had a great time for a great cause!
