where clothing
identifies your status
During
the Middle Ages clothing was not only a form of protection against the weather
conditions but it served as a form of identification. In fact, it was said that, “Clothing should be considered in terms
of its economic and social context” (Rosener 85). The form, quality, and color of clothing often
reflected societal position. Wealthier
classes bought their clothing from tailors while those in lower classes had
to make garments with their own materials.
