PA DCED Grant Awarded to Allegheny and Regional Parnters to Stimulate Economic Development

To help stimulate economic and business development, CEED has led a regional initiative for a Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) grant that will foster innovation and entrepreneurial development based on reuse and clean technology, while acting as a catalyst for technology transfer through education and outreach efforts. The regional partnership of four colleges and universities (including Allegheny College) and four economic development organizations in northwest Pennsylvania was recently awarded the grant by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. The grant for $250,000 will create the Northwest PA KIZ. Read press release. Visit NWPA KIZ website.

CEED hosts Community Meeting on December 6

Students in Professor Amara Geffen's Environmental Art class at Allegheny College have spent the semester working on a proposal for the revitalization of Meadville's Shadybrook Park, which is part of the Meadville, PA: Not Your Run of the Mill Community project developed by the college's Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED). The class will share their research and recommendations for these sites, and ask for community feedback and involvement at a community meeting to be held on Thursday, December 6, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Meadville Area Senior High School. All interested members of the community are invited to attend the meeting and offer ideas, suggestions, and comments. Community recommendations will be used to finalize plans for a Growing Greener grant, which was prioritized by the County Planning Office last year. Read the press release.
