CEED to Host Presentation on Grow Pittsburgh's Edible Schoolyards

CEED will be hosting Rebecca Frye, Emily Caffee and Josh Burnett of Grow Pittsburgh Edible Schoolyards, a program aimed at developing urban vegetable gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Schultz East Alcove. Topics covered include 1) the Edible Schoolyard model as it was first developed and implemented in berkely, CA and review of similar programs across the nation, 2) startup and implementation in Pittsburgh, covering the role of the Edible Schoolyard Garden Coordinator in the schools and outlining a typical garden session routine, and 3) the process of setting up such a program including grant-seeking and about Grow Pittsburgh's role within the greater urban agriculture community.

No Impact Man and Green Week at Edinboro University

Colin Beaven (No Impact Man) will be speaking at Edinboro University as part of Green Week. The Event will include the showing of "No Impact Man - The Movie" and an energy fair scheduled for 4:30 to 7:30 at Edinboro University's Pogue Center. New CEED Publications

Two research publications have been added to the CEED website. The publications include "Variability of Soil Carbon and Nitrogen in Switchgrass and Big Bluestem Fields in Northwestern Pennsylvania" and "Identifying and Leveraging Growth Drivers in the Tooling and Machining Industry in Crawford and Erie Counties". Climate Change Fellowship Opportunities

Earth Aid (www.earthaid.net) is currently offering innovative fellowship opportunities for students interested in energy and environmental issues. Eart Aid has developed the first free service that enables individuals to track their electric, gas, and water usage in one place online, receive customized tips to help them save. This fall, they are launching a University Organizing Fellowship to empower students to work on the front lines in the fight against climate change in their communities, track their actual impact, and in the process, receive training on a variety of topics, from community organizing to political outreach and more.
