"Blue Dog Wins
Award"
by Hank Lewis
Blue Dog Inc advertising was thrust into the national spotlight yesterday when they became the proud recipients of the Lydia Pinkham Truth in Advertising Award. The award is given annually, and the winner is chosen by a board of advertising executives on the basis of being the most honest advertising agency in the business.
Born a Quaker, Pinkham's deep interest in medicine and remedies helped her to develop her now famous product, Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. As late as 1925, sales of the compound still totaled $3 million. In 1968, the family sold their rights to the product, where it is still being produced in the Philippines.
The mood at the Blue Dog offices is one of excitement.
"It's a real honor to receive this award," CEO Matt Gelles said. "The biggest problem advertising agencies have is establishing credibility, and this award certainly means we're taking great strides toward establishing it."
"If we can, we're going to win the award next year too, because Blue Dog doesn't plan on becoming less trustworthy. We're only getting better."
Throughout the awards history, only one other agency has one
the award twice-Lucky Strikes cigarettes for their "Lung Purifier"
campaign in 1928, and their "Lucky Strikes are Good for You" ads
aimed at women's liberation protestors the following year.
