What do you think? Question of the day!
-Do you live or want to live off-campus? Why? What are the benefits? What issues might arise? What would make you want to live on-campus?
Recap:
Today we really narrowed our vision. We came up with the following list of goals:-Enhance students’ residential experience
-Improve the housing stock
-Expand the tax base
-Beautify the neighborhood
-Creating an Allegheny “Imprint”
-Enhancing the Gateway
-Focus the College’s resources
-Making downtown attractive
-Recruitment of students and staff
-Partnerships and alliances
-Sustainable housingWe also began to create a list of tasks which will need to be completed in order to make these visions become reality. By tomorrow it's my guess that we'll have the beginnings of a draft final report.

I'm moving off campus for three reasons, the main being cost. Because I do not receive financial aid from the school, I am not penalized for moving off campus. All things considered (food, utilities, etc.) it is still about half as expensive to live off-campus than on.
Also, I'm a vegetarian and was never really satisfied with the options offered at Brooks and McKinleys, though they tried.
Finally, I had a rather poor experience trying to establish a practice room of non-majoring musicians and will enjoy the expanding space of a shared house.

Hey Brett,
AWESOME IDEA!!! I am thinking to enhance residential experience--Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are the way to do it!! I have enjoyed working to develop and implement LLCs at Miami and it has been so much fun. Students enjoy living in the halls with the students they take classes (similar to freshmen seminars) with, or living with their sorority members, or participating in activities that align with their interest...just some food for thought! I am really excited that you are taking this initiative--what a great way to utilize facebook for something productive, useful and for something that, with you in the lead, will make change!
Best of luck!

Although I really enjoyed living on campus for my first year and sophomore year, I found it to be much more beneficial to live off campus for a few a the reasons Zach mentioned, especially the cost and the ability to cook my own food.
I found that living in Baldwin there were really good hall programs and building programs to bring together the resident community, when I lived in Catflish that programing was lost.
Also the space for living off campus is better. Is it true that once North Village Phase 2 is complete there they will convert the Catflish quads into doubles? Because that is a really great idea.
Also what do you mean by "enhancing the Gateways?"
