Biography:

       Michael Peroski is a junior, double major in biochemistry and philosophy with pre-medical aspirations. He spent this past summer researching the ethics of human-nonhuman chimeras and ethics committees/ethics consultations at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics, and will be returning over his winter break to complete a paper entitled “An unacknowledged hardship: the role of nurses in ethics consultations.” During this summer he also participated in the EL Term shadowing experience. He is currently employed by a Pennsylvania Hospital and is responsible for maintaining an incident reporting system, and has authored, edited, and published policies in nursing, social service, maternity, emergency medicine, emergency preparedness, bioterrorism, and security at this hospital. He interned his freshman year at Harvard Divinity School studying men’s health issues at a nursing home. Aside from APHC, Peroski participated in ASB, is a Bonner Leader, Founded the Allegheny Bioethics Committee, is an appointed member of the Allegheny IRB and PHAC, and is Allegheny’s Campus Progress Representative. Additionally, he has memberships in The American Society of Bioethics and Humanities, the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society and the American Medical Student Association.

Biography:

      Casey Fox is a second year Pre-Dental student who has observed, through job shadowing, the many different fields of dentistry.  This past summer she observed Drs. Abe and Dennis Finton, general dentists, Dr. Smith, orthodontist, and Dr. Nicholas Fedorka, oral surgeon.

Name: Steph Izurieta

Position:  Bioethics Committee Chair

Pre-Health Aspiration:  Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Biography: Steph Izurieta is a senior biology major, economics minor, concentrating in pre-veterinary medicine. She has applied for early acceptance to the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and is anxiously awaiting their final committee review. This past summer she worked out in Rolla, MO at a residential summer science camp (Cub Creek Science Camp) as the head Animal Programs Coordinator. While there, Steph worked with many exotic species including a two-toed sloth, an African crested porcupine, and a marmoset—to name a few. Although her major aspiration is to pursue a career in small animal (companion animal) medicine, that internship has her keeping her mind wide open. At school, she is currently employed at Greener Pastures Heifer Raising, Inc. and has an internship at Greener Pastures veterinary clinic this semester. Steph is also the AVSL for the Crawford CART program on campus. She has a 3 year old dog named Tyson and a 4 month old ferret named Tucker. Tyson is a registered therapy dog with PhD (Paws Hands Delivered) and he and Steph frequent the nursing homes around town. Oh, and don’t worry, Tyson and Tucker are best friends!
