The Alternative Consumption Research Committee (ACRC) is an interdisciplinary network of researchers and scholars who share an interest in issues of over-consumption and consumerism and in alternative consumption practices such as sufficiency, sustainability, and voluntary simplicity.

Our Primary Objectives Include:

1. Fostering dialogue, collaborative opportunities, and debate among researchers who are seeking an understanding of the personal, social, and/or ecological problems resulting from over-consumption and consumerism. We strive to include researchers from various disciplines, across cultures and at varying stages of their career.

2. Serving the public interest and promoting social awareness by: a) establishing reciprocal relationships with activist organizations that foster psychologically, socially, and environmentally sustainable consumption practices; b) translating scholarly work for a broad public audience and sharing research with activist groups; and c) promoting practices that are personally enlivening, socially just, and ecologically sustainable.

3. Increasing scholarly understanding of the problems of and solutions to over-consumption and consumerism by facilitating the writing, dissemination, and funding of research on these topics.
