IN MEADVILLE:

Community Service at Allegheny
Over half of Allegheny students participate in community projects. There are opportunities for everyone, and the office of ACCEL (Allegheny College Center for Experiential Learning) is a good place to start. Find out more about how you can get involved by starting out here, at ACCEL's Office of Community Service.

...AND ON BEYOND:

America's Second Harvest
America's Second Harvest is the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization, distributing food to 26 million hungry Americans each year, eight million of whom are children.

The Hunger Site
Last year visitors to the Hunger Site clicked to donate 167,564,354 cups of food to hungry people across the world. The more people who click daily, the greater the chance that one less person will die of hunger that day.

Mercy Corps
This is another organization working to end hunger and improve living conditions around the world. Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided more than $640 million in assistance to 74 countries. Mercy Corps is known nationally and internationally for its quick-response, high-impact programs. Over 91 percent of the agency's resources are allocated directly to programs that help those in need.

The Rainforest Site
With the help of the Rainforest Site, 4,700 acres of rainforest were saved in the year 2000, yet more can be done; each second another acre disappears. Click daily to donate land, and explore other ways to help.

Shop for Change
Shop here, and five percent of each purchase you make will automatically be donated to nonprofit groups working for peace, equality, human rights, education, and a cleaner environment; groups like RainForest Action Network, Doctors Without Borders, and Handgun Control Inc.
