Minoring or majoring in Classics |
CLASSICAL STUDIES MINOR REQUIREMENTSThe Classical Studies minor provides a broad-based introduction to ancient Greek and Roman civilization which includes components of Latin language study, history and cultural studies. Students gain familiarity with diverse aspects of the ancient world and learn how to formulate original arguments based on primary sources, literary and material. The minor requires at least 20 credits, and counts as either a humanities or social sciences minor depending upon the course selection. Social sciance minors must take three history courses and the minor will consist of 24 credits in total. The minor coordinator is Prof. Judson Herrman. Course RequirementsTake at least eight credits of Latin language courses. Take at least one of the following history survey courses:
Take one advanced course (300-level or above) in Greek or Roman history. Take at least one of the following elective courses:
Other appropriate courses may be included in the minor with the permission of the minor coordinator. Minoring in LatinThe Latin language minor is now in the catalogue and does not require special forms. For a Latin minor, you will take at least 20 credits of Latin courses, of which at least one must be at the 300-level or above. |

Student-designed majorFormsStudent-designed major Declaration or change of minor To design your own Classical Studies major, download the appropriate forms and make an appointment with the minor coordinator. The application consists of a schedule of courses you plan to take and a statement describing how your choice of courses will result in an academicially cohesive and rigorous program of study. For a Classical Studies major, you will take at least 40 credits in a combination of Latin, history and other related courses, of which a certain number of both language and history courses must be above the 300-level, and complete a senior project.
