Classical Studies at Allegheny
See the
Classical Studies course listings.
Or the minor requirements.
Classical studies at Allegheny is an interdisciplinary program which encourages students to approach the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome through the study of ancient languages, history, religions and art.
Introductory and intermediate/advanced
Latin courses are taught every semester, and
independent study in ancient Greek
is possible on demand. Greek and Roman history
surveys are taught every year, and history courses on
special topics beyond the 300 level are regularly
offered. The departments of Art, Philosophy, and Religious Studies
also teach courses on the classical world.
The interdisciplinary Classical Studies minor consists of five courses including
Latin, history and electives in art, philosophy or religious studies, and may satisfy
either a humanities or social sciences requirement
depending upon the courses chosen.
Prospective students may also consider a minor in Latin language, consisting of five semesters of Latin,
or a student-designed major in Classical Studies. Interested students should contact the
minor coordinator.
