Tony's a Genius

I had an interesting problem yesterday. Jason had a similar problem a few weeks ago but was able to work around it. When running a report back to the hold file, the report browser seems to start but can't be seen. This hangs the session. Jason was able to increase the resolution on his display to see an edge of the browser and move it back to the usable area of the screen. Mine was totally gone with the monitor at its highest resolution.

Called Solution Center and talked to Tony Hernandez, who has help me many times before. We went through the whole issue and finally it hit him that the location of the report browser is stored in the datatel.ini file. Sure enough, for my r18 test session the battr (browser attribute) left hand starting position was over 1300 but my screen resolution is only 1280 x 1024. Changed the number to 70, restarted UI and the report shows up! Beautiful.

By the way, with UI 2.2, datatel.ini is in My Documents\datatel

Like I said, Tony's a genius!

You know all that testing we've done...

Well, never mind. Any paragraphs tested so for need to be tested again. I just copied collive from admin4 to admin5 and all the paragraphs on menus from admin5 collive to /datatel/coll18/test/apphome. So they might all be different. Isn't this fun? Should we start a daily countdown to October 19?

Testing, testing ...

Testing of R18 continues. We are putting together a listing of all mnemonics to test and who is reponsible for each one. Still fine tuning things on the new server, setting up printers and things like that. Lots of details to attend to. October is looking closer and closer!

Still testing

I haven't posted for a while but we are still at it - testing processes and computed columns. It's a frustrating process. Things work one place and not another and it will take some time to get good testing and debugging procedures in place. So, for now, we're still plugging away.

Lookup Fixed

Solution Center came through again. Our /tmp partition was too small to hold the index rebuild files for our PERSON file. Tim moved it to a bigger area and we can look people up by partial names!

Now, testing, testing, testing!

Training on its way

Building the training account has gone very smoothly. It took about six years to get the test account set up. OK, maybe 3 weeks, but it seemed like six years! The training account has taken less than 5 hours. OF course not there are over 300 patches to apply. Still, it is really nice to have things work as advertised.

There is still the issue of PERSON indexing in test. You can't look people up by name, just by ID number. Details. Datatel is looking into it.

Yipee, post installs complete!

I just finished the last of the Post Install instructions in the manual. It's official, we have a live R18 test environment. It only took two weeks to get it going. With a ittle practice, I should be able to get that down to, what, maybe 6 days. Think the users will mind being off the system for 6 days? Yeah, right!

Oh, by the way, sorry for flipping back and forth between R18 and R18 Install. Got to get this whole blog thing straightened out.
