Thurston House is a program for Pregnant and Parenting Students who are enrolled in an approved High School or GED program. Service Components are assistance in accessing transportation, assistance in accessing Child Care, parenting and child development education, career counseling, vocational counseling and nutrition and health care education.
Based in a house adjacent to the Crawford County Vocational Technical School, Thurston House provides services to High School or GED students who are pregnant or parenting, both mothers and fathers and grandparents. Thurston House Program provides services to custodial and non-custodial parents.
The program reaches through six counties in Northwestern Pennsylvania providing services in Crawford, Erie (except the City of Erie), Warren, Venango, Clarion and Forest Counties at sites in each area.
Funding is provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare through the Education Leading to Employment and Career Training or ELECT program, ELECT Fatherhood Initiative, and the Pregnant and Parenting Teen or PPT Program with the assistance of the Center for Schools and Communities. Additional support comes from a Crawford County Vocational Grant, the Samuel Justus Charitable Trust and Discretionary Charitable Trust and the John Nesbit Rees and Sarah Henne Rees Foundation per grantee county. Grant coordination and support is provided by PENNCREST School District.
