Jim received a B.A. in Biology and Environmental Studies from the
University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in Zoology from the Universtiy of
Texas at Austin, and conducted postdoctoral research in the Department
of Zoology at the University of Iowa and the Department of Entomology
at Texas A & M University . Jim teaches Toxicology, Environmental Science,
Introductory Evolution and Behavior, and a Principles of Biology for
non-science majors.
Jim's general research interests are ecology and evolution of life
history traits. Recent research projects includemeasurement of reproductive
differences between insect strains resistant and susceptible to pesticides;
sublethal neural and behavioral effects of pesticides and heavy metals;
the role of esterases in regulating behavior in earwigs; use of enzyme-linked
immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to detect endocrine disrupting chemicals.
His hobbies are hiking, camping, and block print making.
