Sarah earned a B.A. in Psychology from Edinboro University, the M.S.
in Biopsychology from the University of New Orleans and the Ph.D. in
Neuroscience from Baylor. Following the completion of her Ph.D., she
completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh
in Cardiovascular Behavioral Medicine. She joined the faculty at Allegheny
in 2007. Sarah teaches Health Psychology, Foundations of Psychology,
Foundations of Neuroscience II, Health and Psychophysiology, and an
FS called Healthy, Happy Brains.
Sarah's research interests include how dietary fats are related to mood
and brain function, how different types of behaviors such as eating,
sleeping and exercise can influence autonomic response to mental stress
and promote feelings of well-being and how naps might benefit young
adults. Sarah's lab is equipped with a variety of psychophysiological
measurement tools such as EEG and EKG and now includes a state-of-the-art
Polysomnography System.
Sarah lives near campus in Meadville with her husband and their two
very large dogs and very small twin cats. All of their animals are black
with white socks. Her hobbies include backpacking, gardening, traveling,
rooting for Pittsburgh sports teams and promoting her own neurogenesis.
She is an optimist.
