A Picture Worth 1000 Words
This picture shows one of the four towers on the top of the German Reichstag, or German Parliament building in Berlin. All four towers display the national flag proudly, and the building itself represents both struggle and achievement. The reason that I chose this picture is because of the history that it represents. The Reichstag building has been taken over by Russian forces, attack by Nazi soldiers, abandoned by it's own people, and then constructed all over again. The political struggles which have faced Germany in the past are part of what has shaped the nation. Today's Reichstag building represents a completely new Germany, with a completely new attitude. The Federal Republic is in many ways the pride of every German, after all, it was no easy task to rebuild a country after the destruction of the second world war and become once again one of the world's leading powers. Thus, the Reichstag building, if anything, represents the German culture, and their pride.
