Great Expectations

After two weeks in Cologne, Germany I am still not sure what exactly I want to get out of this trip. I feel as though so many options have been presented to me and continue to be presented in a way that has never seemed possible. That is part of being in a different culture: It is alien and at the same time fun and surprising; existentially more than anything you can find in your native land. Many times now in the past three weeks have I thought about my goals in the coming months, but the less I think about them the easier it is for my mind to make clearly define my role here.

I am here to experience this culture day to day. My goal is to live (If I can continue to avoid the menacing, impossibly punctual, and seemingly silent subway cars) and vulnerably experience another culture. I have a lot to learn and new ideas to integrate into my life. As long as that continues, and I improve my German, I will come out of this without regret.
