The Hennepin County Library in Minnesota has a great web page of recommendations for books to read distributed across numerous categories: fiction, nonfiction, Pulitzer prize, mystery, romance, National Book Awards, science fiction, teens, etc. It also has an excellent set of links to other web sites for people who care about reading.

Tattered Corners: New and Used Books It's a remarkably strong collection of used books, particularly contemporary and classic fiction. It's locally owned, and they can order anything you'd like. A very friendly place to shop.

The Complete Review - A web site of book reviews sorted by the quality of the books: The Best, A+, A, The Rest, etc. Not only are the reviews interesting, but they also have a very interesting selection of books not found on popular Best Seller lists.

Bookslut offers monthly reviews, interviews with authors, blogs, etc, but tends to keep abreast of contemporary bestsellers and other books reviewed by the New York Times.

The New York Times Book Review section on the web takes some work, but there's a lot to choose from. They have all their book reviews since 1996 on the web, if you can select the right key words for their search engine. In a little box, they have editors' choices, the 10 best and 100 best books of the last year, and weekly reviews, of course. They're tough critics: scores of excellent books never get reviewed in the Times. On the other hand, if the Times is talking about a book, it's probably a book worth talking about. Even if it means reading the review, rather than the book itself.

Leah's Book List - My daughter Leah created her own book review web site for a school project. So far she has focused on books that deliver understanding of other cultures.
