My research addresses multiple facets of environmental health,
a preventive field that evaluates health risks from environmental
exposures and reduces disease through: outreach, education,
behavior modification, intervention, regulation and remediation.
I am interested in how human activities (such as land use
patterns or household management) affect human health both
directly (heavy metal exposure, vector-borne diseases) and
indirectly (urban sprawl, climate change). I use epidemiological,
ecological and modeling tools to help make the necessary links
to assess risks, evaluate best practices and develop programs
to reduce disease incidence.
In addition, I collaborate with professionals across the country
to ensure that undergraduates have a sufficient understanding
of the health implications of disparate professions (business,
law, politics, transportation, planning…) as the newest cadre
of educated citizens.
