Scott McCloud: Time, Space, & Comics

Wow! In his TED Talk, Scott McCloud, the author of Understanding Comics, offers an amazing look at how we think, dream, and reveal the world to one another. As he discusses his evolution to comic book guru, he explores the connections among art, science, politics, and personal endeavors. According to McCloud, there are Four Basic Principles involved in visualizing the future and pursuing what could be: Learn from Everyone, Follow No One, Watch for Patterns, and Work like Hell. What a wonderful philosophy for what we do in our disciplines, in our classrooms, and in our lives every day. McCloud ends his presentation by suggesting that, "Media, all media, provide us a window back into our world." This idea made me think about all the forms of technology we use to communicate and what that reveals about our infinite and insatiable need to connect to other people, other places, and other times. If you have 17 minutes to spare, watch McCloud's talk and be inspired.
