Humor is a growing topic of research in a number of fields in psychology. For example, cognitive psychologists have found that the use of humor can increase listener attention and recall. Humor, in the form of sarcasm, has also been identified as a factor that establishes common ground--an important requirement for friendship. What about the use of humor as a coping mechanism?
