Possible projects

Here is a list of possible/likely projects...

1. Object transformations/planar form/construction

Exploration of basic construction techniques using planar materials. Discussion of issues surrounding the transformation of everyday objects into sculptural form.

2. Carving

Subtractive form. One of the original forms of sculpture. We will use stone.

3. Moldmaking and casting

This may include construction of a positive form to be cast, and will include taking a mold and exploration of materials that can be cast. Understanding the relationship between form, material, process and idea will be emphasized. Possibilities include sand, clay, wax, paper, wood, found objects, plaster and rubber.

4. Wood construction

Exploration of joinery and construction methods in wood.

5. Linear Form

This involves an exploration of structure form and space, and explores the relationship between drawing and sculpture with respect to open space.

6. Installation Art

Sculpture in an expanded field...Experience vs. Object orientation.

7. Found Objects & Readymades

Projects will vary in length from one class period to one month in duration as required by the demands of that particular process. Schedules will be provided at the start of each project unit; they will either be handed out or written on the blackboard for you to copy down. This will also be true for assignment guidelines and descriptions. Be prepared to record this information, as well as technical information provided in demos, in a safe place!
