These kinds of questions motivate the project for the teaching of global environmental politics (GEP). The project was initiated in 1996 to provide a forum for teacher-scholars of GEP to share information and questions about research and teaching in the field. The project aims to spur substantive discussion about the pedagogical challenges inherent in the teaching of interdisciplinary, complex, sometimes daunting and depressing topics linked to the politics of sustainability.
The backbone of the project is an email discussion list that links some 200 participants worldwide. The list was initially organized to provide a place for college and university teachers of GEP to "compare notes" and explore alternative curricular and pedagogical approaches. However, many outside of academic teaching have recently come to the list -- they include scholars, government analysts, activists, and graduate students who, in one way or another, have a special interest in education and GEP. To learn more about the list, including how to join, please click here.
