Pelletier Library Other Named Collections Original Library Library Catalogue of 1823

 

 

The Special Collections of the Lawrence Lee Pelletier Library is the repository for rare books and manuscripts given to Allegheny College. Some noteworthy collections within Special Collections:

  • the Original Library: the Bentley, Winthrop and Thomas Collections
  • the personal library and papers of Ida M. Tarbell, Class of 1880
  • diaries of the Rev. James Mills Thoburn, Class of 1857
  • Rev. Dr. Charles Carroll Albertson, among them 15th century illuminated manuscripts.
Special Collections is located on the third floor of Pelletier Library. Access to the collections is by appointment only. During the semester availability is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Semester breaks and summer hours will vary. Please contact Jane Westenfeld, jwestenf@allegheny.edu, 814-332-3769 for inquiries or to schedule time in Special Collections. We welcome scholars, researchers to our Special Collections.
