India EL Tour Objectives:

An examination of how the world's largest socialist democratic republic, a space of multiple histories, cultures, religions, geographic terrains, and identities, is a success story as a globally competitive postmodern nation. Experiential learning focuses on India's nation-branding through its tourism, media, ecological conservation efforts, and the localization of Western cultural imports.

Investigations into the psychological and communication aspects of nationalism involve visits to historic monuments and fort-cities (signposts of various Indias), the cosmopolitan capital of New Delhi, world-renowned tiger conservation parks, and sub-Himalayan colonial hill-stations from the British Empire.

Students will be introduced to a non-western cultural perspective through which to re-examine globalization, and its accompanying terms, progress, and civilization.
