Reminder:
Project #1 (50 pts) due Mon 24.Nov
Exam #3 over Chapters 6 & 7 likely on Wed. 03.Dec
Project #1 note:
When you are making the linear scale graph for the CO2 dataset, it does not make a difference whether you leave in the data points with the missing y-values.
However, when you are making the log-transformed Y (=log y) vs x semi-log graph for the CO2 dataset, Excel will be attempting to take the LOG of nonexistent values and will report a #NUM! error in those cells. Simply delete these erroneous Y values - there are seven of them, at (rescaled yrs since 1958) x-values of 0, 0.08, 0.42, 0.75, 6.08, 6.17, and 6.25 - to make the plot correct; your resulting R2 should then be very high and close to that of the linear plot.

answers to problems from Christain Science Monitor article (t = years since 1990)
(your answers may vary slightly depending on how you interpreted the endpoints on the graph):
Public Tuition: Pub(t) = 2000 ∙ 1.0698t
If tuition had followed inflation: Inf(t) = 2000 ∙ 1.0274t
Private Tuition: Pri(t) = 10000 ∙ 1.0507t
If tuition had followed inflation: Inf(t) = 10000 ∙ 1.0257t
Note that the inflation growth factor is essentially the same
Introduced 5.5 & 5.6
Important: My treatment of 5.5 differs from the book. I use the single equation a = 1 + r for the relationship between per-unit growth/decay factor (a) and per-unit growth/decay rate (r), and r is positive or negative to indicate growth or decay.
