Wilderness Lodge

On Sunday, February 18, 2007, a van full of excited Allegheny students made their way to Wilderness Lodge located in Wattsburg, Pennsylvania. While at Wilderness Lodge, the group enjoyed cross country skiing on the trails and the warmth of the cozy lodge for a few breaks. Most of the participants knew how to ski, but there were a few who needed to learn. Several Outing Club leaders gave the novices a quick lesson, focusing on learning how to fall. After a few hours on the trials, the skiers met back at the lodge for lunch before hitting the snow for a final loop. A few of the students managed to cross state lines and ski to New York on this trip.

Woodcock Creek Lake

On January 27, 2007, ten students bested a lake effect snow warning, freezing temperatures, and one giant snowball to enjoy a near perfect day of cross country skiing at Woodcock Lake. While the snow fell softly, the same could not be said of the participants, as numerous spills marked the opening part of the day. Once everyone learned the motions of their skis, the trip moved swiftly around the banks of the lake, wandering between brief forests and an open marsh. After an attempt to change the environmental status quo by pushing a giant snowball into the stream, the participants journeyed back to the van for hot chocolate and sandwiches, marking the end to an eventful day.

Greendale Ravine

Elated with the long awaited snowfall, a large group of Allegheny students took advantage of the cold, sunny Saturday afternoon of January 20, 2007 to go cross country skiing and snowshoeing. The group headed to the Greendale Cemetery and many of the participants who were new to the area were taken aback by the wintry scene that lay before them. Everyone had a great time and as they glided around the cemetery and trooped through the ravine. Without a doubt, this was an activity that the participants would be excited to do again.

Wilderness Lodge

On Sunday, March 5, 2006 a group of students headed to The Wilderness Lodge in Wattsburg, PA for a day of cross-country skiing. After a short lesson, everyone went off to explore the many trails on their own. The group met back at the lodge for lunch and a short rest by the fire before heading back out for more skiing in the afternoon. Everyone returned to Allegheny sore and tired after a long, but fun day of cross-country skiing.
