Twenty four people loaded up Saturday morning to make the drive to Ohiopyle State Park. After doing a little hiking, the group stopped at the natural waterslides. A couple decided to ride them while the others watched. Camp was set up and everyone ate dinner before sitting around the campfire to play mafia. The next day everyone hit the water and had a great time rafting. We came off the river and headed back to Allegheny after a beautiful weekend outside.
The weekend of Saturday, April 28, 2007 was anything but ordinary for a group of seventeen adventurous Allegheny students. These brave gators ventured into the wilderness that is Cooperâ??s Rock State Forest, WV, and spent the day exploring, bouldering, and hiking. Following their deep-woods excursion, the group headed off to a local campground, where they enjoyed an exquisite dinner, a warm fire, and good company. After being lulled to sleep by a chorus of spring peepers and a gentle evening shower, the group arose the next morning to do battle with the Cheat River. While the class III, IV, and V rapids were ferocious, the rafters paddled safely down the river, following the lead of several well-seasoned rafting guides. The Cheat River Canyon scenery was almost as breath-taking as the icy cold waters of the river itself, and the group was both awestruck and exhausted by the time they reached the take-out point, eleven miles downriver. Although their clothes were sodden, their spirits were anything but dampened. After an impressive display of skills and courage, the group returned to campus that evening, bringing back with them a true spirit of adventure.
On the weekend of October 7-8, 2006, the Allegheny Outing Club ventured to Ohiopyle State Park for a fun-filled weekend of rock climbing and whitewater rafting. Several professionals from American Adventure Sports guided the group through rappelling, rock climbing, and ascending on Saturday on the rocks at Meadow Run. This new activity was a first for many of the participants as they conquered some fears and had a great time in the process. Sunday consisted of whitewater rafting on the Lower Youghiogheny River and Class IV rapids, with guides from Whitewater Adventures. It was a beautiful day and the water was warm. The trip was a success in more ways than one as it was filled with learning, fun, and great feedback from all of the participants!
