Rock Climbing
President, PA

Our trip to President, PA on October 25 for rock climbing and rappelling was a blast. It was a nice sunny day and we spent about an hour scoping out the area before we set up a rappelling system. Every one of our participants faced their fear and had a fun time rappelling down. Once we went through a few more times, we ate lunch, set up another system and then used both for climbing and rappelling. Each participant was able to test their limits and enjoy climbing. Afterwords we set up a crash pad, bouldered and then went on our merry way back to Allegheny.

Slippery Rock University

On Sunday, March 11, 2007, an unusually warm day for that time of year, a group of students took a forty-five minute drive to Slippery Rock University to take advantage of the climbing wall located in the recreation center. While most agreed that it might have been a better day for a hike, everyone enjoyed taking turns climbing and belaying on the wall. For a few people, this was their first time on a wall. Several more experienced climbers took on the challenge of attempting to climb the advanced routes such as the overhang. After two hours of strenuous climbing, most were ready to climb into the van for the relaxing ride back to Allegheny.

Kendall Cliffs

On Sunday, December 3, 2006, fifteen members of the Outing Club traveled to a land know for its rugged, rocky cliffs and great rock climbing: Ohio. Well maybe not so much, but the great state does have an awesome indoor rock gym at Kendal Cliffs in Peninsula. The group spent over three hours climbing and refining their belaying skills on the thirty foot artificial rock walls. While no one was able to attempt the â??arch climb,â?? the group spent their time climbing routes at many different levels of difficulty, while giving each other tips as to how to reach the top. Overall, the climbers had a wonderful time and made it known that they would like to return to the cliffs as soon as possible.

Ohiopyle State Park

On the weekend of October 7-8, 2006, the Allegheny Outing Club ventured to Ohiopyle State Park for a fun-filled weekend of rock climbing and whitewater rafting. Several professionals from American Adventure Sports guided the group through rappelling, rock climbing, and ascending on Saturday on the rocks at Meadow Run. This new activity was a first for many of the participants as they conquered some fears and had a great time in the process. Sunday consisted of whitewater rafting on the Lower Youghiogheny River and Class IV rapids, with guides from Whitewater Adventures. It was a beautiful day and the water was warm. The trip was a success in more ways than one as it was filled with learning, fun, and great feedback from all of the participants!
