Trustee Scholar Night Hike

On Friday, March 9, 2007, with a clear, star-filled night, the Outing Club went on a night hike through Greendale Ravine. Spending an hour escaping from the hustle and bustle of campus life, nine hikers made their way down the snowy trails to listen to the serene gurgling of the creek, while spicing up the night with a friendly snowball fight. With mud covered sneakers and nearly frostbitten hands, participants walked away with smiles on their faces and a greater appreciation for the outdoors.

Trustee Scholar Night Hike

On Friday, March 2, 2007, the Allegheny Outing Club took advantage of the unusually nice March weather to hike the nature trails at the Robertson Sports Complex. The crunchy, melting snow on the ground did not damper the general good humor and enthusiasm of the participants. A nearly full and very luminescent moon alleviated the need for flashlights in the wide open fields, while the dark tranquility of the woods offered a relaxing experience away from the sometimes hectic nature of campus. Overall, the mood was great among the participants during the adventurous trek into the woods.

Emerging Leaders Retreat Night Hike

Head lamps in tow, the Emerging Leaders joined the Outing Club for a night hike at McKeever Environmental Learning Center on January 14, 2007. Battling the elements, including falling snow and whipping wind, the students picked their way over the ice covered paths to reach the waterfall. At the end of the night, the students presented skits about Allegheny College, using leaves, sticks, and even a brick as props. Finally, feeling the need to de-thaw, everyone guzzled steaming hot chocolate and made s'mores.

Valentineâ??s Day Night Hike

Struck by cupid himself on the night of February 14, 2007, ten gators trekked in the newly fallen snow to the romantic Greendale Ravine for a beautiful night of star-filled skies and snowball fights! While other Allegheny students were out to eat with their significant others, these adventurous souls braved the Meadville tundra and snowshoed the night away. All in all, it was a wonderful time to take advantage of Meadvilleâ??s Valentineâ??s Day gift of snow!

Greendale Ravine

To take advantage of an open Saturday night on October 21, 2006, nineteen students joined the Outing Club for a stroll through the Greendale Ravine. As the group gabbed and hiked in the cool, invigoratingly chilly air, they left the Campus Center and traveled to the ravine. The gushing stream, swollen from Meadvilleâ??s lovely rainstorms, was the only sound that was heard while hiking through the ravine. After the hike, the group told ghost stories and spotted the most amazing shooting star in the cemetery by the ravine. The night hikers returned for hot chocolate at Grounds for Change, excited that they had capped off a hectic week with a nice walk in the woods!
