SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
National and International Scholarships for Undergraduates, Recent Graduates and Graduate Students

The Scholarship Mentoring Program (SMP) has identified scholarship opportunities for Allegheny students who have achieved exceptional academic records, and those who have otherwise distinguished themselves through campus activities. All of the scholarships listed within the SMP website (http://merlin2.alleg.edu/dept/smp/) are competitive and important. In every case, the opportunities they offer are potentially transformative. They have a habit of changing the recipients' lives.

Some of the scholarships listed are for study in the U.S. - far more are for study abroad. Some scholarships fund undergraduates - far more fund graduates who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees.

On the SMP website, each scholarship is clearly designated for on-campus or off-campus availability and for undergraduates or post-undergraduates (or, in some cases, both). The scope of each award, eligibility criteria, and application procedures are discussed in detail. Wherever possible, a website is listed from which interested students may gather further information. In some cases, students may apply directly to the funding organization. In others, students must undergo a screening and nominating process at Allegheny. Specific instructions are noted in each scholarship entry.

Applications and information for all the scholarships are available at the International Programs and Services (Reis Hall 200). For awards requiring a college nomination and/or an interview, a Nominating Committee of faculty appointed by the Dean of the College will assist students with the application and interview process and make final recommendations. Please pay particular attention to campus application deadlines.

Also, catalogues, brochures and applications for many scholarships and grants not listed are available at the International Programs and Services.

Through the Office of Career Services, seniors can register to take part in a list serve through which they will learn of additional scholarship and fellowship opportunities. Email jobline@allegheny.edu to register.
GENERAL GUIDELINES

Students interested in applying for outside scholarships such as the ones identified the SMP should first browse the SMP website and its links to become aware of the range of possibilities, requirements and profiles of students who are awarded the scholarships.

Students who have questions about specific scholarships should then make an appointment with Danuta Majchrowicz (danuta.majchrowicz@allegheny.edu; tel: X4891). She will review eligibility, application procedures and help students explore their options.

Students who are preparing their applications and would like assistance with their essay, curriculum vitae, academic planning as it pertains to scholarship goals, should then make an appointment with Professor Jim Bulman.

For any scholarships that require Allegheny nominations, students should scrupulously adhere to deadlines as posted on the SMP website. If students are interested in scholarships that are not posted on the SMP website, please inform the Applications Coordinator of your interest at least two (2) months in advance of the scholarship application, so that there is adequate time for application review and assistance.
