Things to remember...

  • If you find a course in the program materials that is not listed below, stop by the International Office. We will provide you with the forms necessary to obtain Allegheny course equivalency.

  • Courses taken on this program are listed as U of M transfer credit on the Allegheny transcript; the grades are NOT factored into your Allegheny course equivalency. Courses will transfer with the number of credits as listed below (or as on the U of M transcript). Only courses with a grade of "C" or above will transfer to Allegheny

  • Courses with multiple equivalencies indicate cross-listings only; courses cannot be counted twice for graduation requirements

  • Internships, case studies and directed research MUST have Allegheny Department approval for transfer PRIOR to departure.

  • Retroactive approval is NOT guaranteed!

  • The India program is a fall, spring or academic year program.

  • one-credit cultural adjustment workshop spread over the semester will assure systematic preparation for, and processing of the intercultural experience.

  • IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFO: Because of MSID's deadlines, it is strongly recommended that students
    submit their approval packets and their MSID applications to the IO at the same time, that is by February 20 for the fall semester
    and September 20 for the spring semester.

GloS 4801: International Development: Critical Perspectives on Theory and Practice: Explore a wide variety of perspectives on international development, with India as a case study.

GloS 4805: International Development Internship: An internship with a host-country development agency or project provides an unparalleled opportunity to study community characteristics, development strategies and problems, organizational structure and culture, and cross-cultural communication issues. The length of the internship depends on the enrollment option: fall or spring semester, six weeks; academic year, five months. Written assignments help link experiences to theories and issues raised in the classroom.

GloS 4803: MSID Country Analysis. This multi-disciplinary study of India emphasizes the social sciences and history, especially as they relate to development issues.

GloS 4806: Topics: Case Studies in International Development. Explore development issues as illustrated by students' projects and organized in sections, such as Environment and Development, and Health and Development.

GloS 4807: Applied Field Methods. Apply selected field research methods and analyze the practical, ethical, and theoretical issues raised through small field assignments and individual research projects.

GloS 4808: MSID Directed Research. In consultation with a local faculty member, develop an individualized research project. The research project allows you to work in depth on a project that is of particular interest to you.
