Through the exchange program, Allegheny students may study for fall or spring semester, or a year at CNU; CNU students spend a semester or a year at Allegheny. The fall semester begins in early September and usually ends mid-December. The spring semester usually begins in late February and exams will not be completed until the end of June. For current dates, see http://www.ciechina.com/english/cie_jieshao.asp?NewsID=17.
This program is designed primarily to solidify Allegheny students' competence in Chinese language and provide a semester-long opportunity to familiarize oneself with Chinese culture and society. Students may earn 12 credits of language toward the Chinese (language) Minor (e.g., 120, 215 and 225). Students at the intermediate level (having taken Chinese 110 and 120 at Allegheny) will earn Chinese 215, 225 and 325. Students may also earn credit toward Chinese Studies Minor through the program. A limited number of opportunities exist to take courses taught in English (e.g. Chinese History, Chinese culture). Students may also earn credit for Dance 106 Cultural Dance and Dance 111 T'ai Chi Chuan (the courses may require additional work upon return to Allegheny to finalize departmental credit; check with the Dance Department for more information). Students with the appropriate language proficiency may enroll in regular university courses with host university students. |
