Allegheny Geology Field Trip

West Virginia-Virginia-Maryland

A junior seminar field trip that focuses on the dynamics of mountain belts. The field trip provides a traverse across the Appalachian Mountains from the metamorphic core, through the fold-thrust belt, and into sedimentary rocks of the foreland basin system. Students learn to make detailed and regional interpretations of mountain building processes based upon their field observations.
