Allegheny Geology Field Trip

Kentucky

A junior seminar field trip during which students examine the links between ancient depositional systems and present environmental issues. Regions of Kentucky provide excellent examples for students to focus on river, deltaic, and carbonate sedimentary processes and the relationships to tectonics and paleoclimate. Students then make links between their observations of the sedimentary rocks and resources (coal, oil, gas, and groundwater), geohazards, engineering practices, and land use.
