ESSAY: Internships at Allegheny College require an academic, scholarly component that should complement your course experiences.  Please complete a brief essay explaining how your internship will meet this expectation.  Your essay should include:

 

1.       your reasons for wishing to undertake this internship;

2.      a description of the relationship between materials/skills covered in courses you have taken and this internship; and

3.      a description of the academic goals you feel you will achieve through participation in this internship.

*Students may present a maximum of 8 semester credit hours of internship credit within the first 131 semester credit hours needed for graduation.

 

**A 2 credit-hour internship requires 70 hours working for the internship organization (averaging 5 hours/week), in addition to time spent writing essays, doing research, or completing your project (roughly an additional 2 to 4 hours per week). 

 

**A 4 credit-hour internship requires 140 hours working for the internship organization (averaging 10 hours/week) in addition to time spent writing essays, doing research, or completing your project (roughly an additional 2 to 5 hours per week).

SUPPORTING MATERIALS: Your application should also include a proposed work schedule that you have developed with the internship supervisor (e.g., MWF 12-4).  I understand that your proposed work schedule may be subject to change.

Grading for internships will be based on the student's work with the organization including fulfilling the required hours of work, essay assignments, and final project.
