Student Internships

Classes Carla Basil
Carla participated in the Washington Semester Program with American University. She took Economic Policy classes three days a week, visiting different think tanks and government institutions to hear economists analyze the current US and world economy. Some of the sites Carla visited included the World Bank, the IMF, and the Pentagon. Carla also interned with The American Legislative Exchange Council (a policy-making organization). In this capacity she worked with the Commerce and Economic Development Task Force director and her researched materials were later incorporated into model policy.

?My time in D.C. was great. I learned more than I ever expected. The city has a wealth of things to do. I met some amazing people, and I had a very positive experience at my internship. Through my internship, I was able to travel to Phoenix, where I even got to meet Attorney General Ashcroft.?
Classes Meredith Buesching
Meredith's first internship was in New York City through Allegheny?s Extended Learning Internship program. She interned under Felice Nudelman, an Allegheny alum, in the college marketing department of the New York Times. During her internship, she designed direct-marketing materials to be sent out with student subscriptions to The Times.

During a second summer in New York, Meredith secured the highly competitive internship with Grey Advertising and worked directly under a head creative director and other copywriters. She worked on projects for a client list that included Panasonic, Dove, and Hasbro.

"This internship showed me exactly how the advertising industry works ... the fast paced advertising working style. My learning at Allegheny helped me bring a different point-of-view to the table."
