GUIDELINES FOR ASC GRANTS AND SABBATIC LEAVE

Academic Support Committee Funding Limit Guidelines
Reviewed and approved by the Committee, Spring, 2006.

1. Academic Support Committee funds are typically granted for start-up projects or works in progress, as opposed to completed projects. Funding for presentation of completed projects should be sought from the Dean's Office.

2. The following ceilings represent guidelines for funding:
a. $2,500 in an annual request for non-sabbatic funding.
b. $3,500 for a first sabbatic request and $2,500 for subsequent sabbatic leave requests.
c. $7,500 total in a 5-year period for a given faculty member. This is to distribute funds more equitably among faculty members.

3. When faced with comparable proposals, the priority for funding is as follows:
a. highest priority: faculty on sabbatical leave.
b. second: tenure-track but untenured faculty
c. third: tenured faculty, non-sabbatic
d. fourth: non-tenure-track faculty
e. lowest: faculty travel to meetings to give papers (these should be covered by the Dean's funds)

Within these categories, proposals that have a well developed plan, and a clearly defined outcome will be given preference.

Note: All receipts for reimbursement for funding must be submitted during the fiscal year for which the award was made. If this is not possible, alternative arrangements must be made through the Associate Dean's Office prior to the end of the fiscal year or the funding will be lost.
