The Penelec-Bowman-Megahan Art Galleries of Allegheny College present exhibitions and other visual arts programming for diverse audiences
including students, educators, emerging and established artists, and other residents of northwestern Pennsylvania. Sponsored by the College's
Art Department, gallery programs are designed to promote active learning and interdisciplinary exploration of the visual arts and culture.
All programs are offered free of charge.

This annual art event features about a dozen artists making art on site with the public invited to observe (and participate if the artist so desires). This year’s artists are John Alexander, Cheryl Capezzuti, Jerel Dye, Dan Franke, Faith Johnson, Ryan Kelly, Michael Garrett, Julie Lohnes, Carin Mincemoyer, Lorri Ott, The Reverend Daisher Rocket, and Allegheny alumna Eva Wylie ’01.

Faculty & Alumni Exhibit
Artists’ Talks and Opening Reception, Tuesday, October 6, 7 – 9 PM

Featuring a variety of artworks by Allegheny College’s faculty and Allegheny alumna Rebecca Allan ’83. Allan is a New York based painter whose work encompasses the landscape, the figure and themes of music. She is currently the Head of Education at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture.

This exhibition considers how human populations are forming the world’s environments, and how the shapes of our ideas affect our lived experiences. Participating artists are: Krista Caballero, Todd Forsgren, Leah Gauthier, Curtis Hamilton, Mark LaRosa, Roberto Loring, Suzanne Proulx, Justin Shull, Thomas J. Stevenson, Vesselina Traptcheva, and Josh Winer.

This show seeks to deconstruct oversimplified notions of ethnicity, gender and sexuality. The show will include video work by Mary Ellen Strom in the Megahan Gallery, an installation by Artist-In_Residence Zanele Muholi in the Bowman Gallery, a wide variety of contemporary works by Yasumasa Morimura, Melissa Boyajian, Ria Brodell, Jacinta Bunnell, Andrea Chung, Jess Dugan, Jesse Jagtiani, Nahna Kim, Jacob Kincheloe, Cobi Moules, Jesse Finley Reed, Jeannie Simms, Colleen Toledano in the Penelec Gallery, and an exterior wall-projection by LA-based artist collaborative ThinkAgain (SA Bachman and David John Attyah).

§ The Art of Persuasion -- Curated by Richard Schindler, Kenneth Pinnow and Darren Miller

Featuring Allegheny College's permanent collection of WWI and WWII propaganda posters in the Penelec Gallery, screen-printed didactic posters and films from Puerto Rico’s Division of Community Education (DIVEDCO) in the Bowman Gallery, photographs from the Farm Security Administration (FSA) in the Megahan Gallery and contemporary work by nationally syndicated political cartoonist Ward Sutton, this exhibition will trace a trajectory of attempts to sway public opinion through the means of visual culture.

The presentation of these exhibits and lectures is supported in part by Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding comes through an annual appropriation by Pennsylvania's General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Arts Council of Erie.
